One of the things that I’ve noticed about job seekers is
that they have a specific title in mind when they are looking for a new job.
This could be a serious mistake.
Many times, a person’s skills sets can provide enough
experience and qualification to do a job that is completely outside of their
targeted career path, without their even knowing it. If you’re doing an online
search and have accounts on any of the major job boards, it’s a good idea to
use buzzwords instead of job titles in the search tool, and to a search of all
jobs. Limiting yourself to only a couple of job titles will limit the
possibilities for success.
For example, an executive secretary, for example, could well
be qualified for an event coordinator’s position. A computer programmer might
be qualified to perform as a technical writer. A high-level manager in any
industry could cross over into another industry, because the major skill sets
have more to do with leadership than with industry.
The key to making this work for you is assuring that all of
the keywords you’re using to search are included in your online resume. If they’re
not, tweak the resume to make sure they’re included.
Next time you go online to do a job search, give this method a try. I’d love to hear any comments from you once
